Cleaning after a crime
About Me
Cleaning after a crime

After we had our home burgled I had to clean it from top to bottom. It felt kind of dirty at home, as though all of our possession had been contaminated by the crime. I know that everyone whose home is broken into or the victim of a crime at home goes through similar feelings of creepiness and a need to clean. I thought it might be useful to start a blog to discuss how to clean the house or the best cleaning services to use to help your house feel like a home again. It should be useful to anyone who has gone through a bad experience and needs a fresh start in their own beloved home.

Understanding Air Monitoring Before and After Asbestos Removal

Warren Nguyen

Air monitoring is a process that encompasses sampling asbestos fibres to assess asbestos exposure, including the effectiveness of the control measures the experts implement. Asbestos fibres are airborne, and if you breathe them in, health problems will occur. Through air monitoring, the level of asbestos pollutants in your home or commercial property will be known. The asbestos professionals use the information they gather to determine whether asbestos risks have been eliminated entirely or not. If not, they will focus on resolving the problem immediately.

Main forms of asbestos air quality testing

In general, air monitoring performed before, during and asbestos removal include the following.

Exposure monitoring – This is an air quality test that's done to determine the levels of airborne asbestos fibres. Usually, this is a routine check that helps ensure your home or workplace is free of asbestos.

Control monitoring – If exposure monitoring is done and the experts realise that your office or home is exposed to asbestos, certain measures can be taken to control the situation before asbestos eradication is done. To test the efficiency of the control measure that's implemented, this air monitoring test is done.

Clearance monitoring – This test is conducted after asbestos removal to make sure the home or commercial property is safe and habitable. Usually, asbestos removal is a delicate process that needs to be conducted with care. Loose fibres can easily break away, and when they become airborne, everyone risks inhaling them. For this reason, a comprehensive air quality test must be done. Allowing your loved ones or employees to enter the building after the removal of asbestos without testing air quality is negligent and could also be fatal.

What's included in the lab analysis

Once the asbestos professionals take samples for the test, a detailed analysis is done using state-of-the-art air monitoring equipment. Each sample will be examined under a microscope to count the present fibres. After the slides are examined, a standard calculation is done to identify whether the number of present fibres (if any) are above the set limit. Based on the analysis, you'll get a report that states the area and when each sample was taken, the number of fibres that were found on every sample (if any), fibre concentration levels, environmental conditions experienced during the sapling procedure, sampling techniques used and the results summary.

Asbestos air monitoring is a technical process that you cannot handle on your own. Allow the experienced and knowledgeable experts to perform the tests on your behalf so you can get reliable results.
